Hot, Hotter, and Hottest!

July 7, 2007

Time: 10:56pm PST
Well, here we are just outside of Sedona, AZ. It is a small town called Camp Verde. We all (Lee's whole family) went to the Out of Africa Wildlife Reserve. It was 118 degrees! I have never been so hot in my life. Yes, the picture shows us smiling, but I can't tell you how sweaty we were. Fortunately, the safari and the tour of the wildlife preserve were very good. The kids really had some great opportunities to meet some African animals up close and personal.

For example, Ben fed the giraffe some carrots from his hand. Check it out:

That was very cool. However, Samantha decided to one-up him by placing the carrot between her lips and letting the giraffe give her a kiss. Yep, she was kissed by a giraffe. See for yourself:

We said farewell to Lee's family after our adventure and headed back to our camper. The others are heading out on their own excursions. Ben and Sam had a chance to swim in the evening and I did four loads of laundry. Lee made some changes in our itinerary and rearranged some of our reservations so we can spend an extra day in Nevada and tour Hoover Dam. Tomorrow we are going to a church service held in a coffeeshop North of Phoenix. We have to get up, get ready and pack up the camper, then head to service. From there we are heading toward Williams, AZ where we will camp while we tour the Grand Canyon.

I'll let you know what we think of the service and update you on our activities. One really cool thing that is happening is that we are doing Ben's Teen Devotional by Josh McDowell each day in the truck with the kids. They are really enjoying it and Ben keeps saying that he can really relate to the readings. That has been a huge blessing! The kids take turns on who reads the day's lesson and they actually argue about whose turn it is. What a great problem to have! Keep praying. We appreciate all your thoughts and well wishes!
Time for bed! Until tomorrow...Good-night!
Love,
Michele

HI Carlson Crew,
It sounds like you're all having quite the adventures and seeing marvelous sites.
I figured out how people can post to your blogs. The instructions are as follows:
1. you need to create a google account. To do so - scroll to very top of the Carlsons blog entries and in right hand corner, click on SIGN IN.
2. you will need to create a google/blog account. No, you don't have to make a blog for yourself.
3. to make a google account - you must use your real email address (doesn't have to be a gmail account) and choose a password, and then type in the weird word/letters you'll see in box below your password choice. Hit enter
4. you will then be signed in. You can then click out of the blog account (but don't sign out).
5. go back to Carlson blogs page and you should still be signed in. You can then post a comment to the Carlsons- enter your comment, then click on publish commment. You should see it come up on website.
Blessings to all!

Hello Carlsons - Faith was just here at my house and showed me how to get to your blog, how to create a Mckendree Family blog site (nothing on it yet), and how to leave comments for you. You have to understand that I am still driving a horse & buggy down the information super highway!

Sounds like you are having a wonderful trip. I, too, arrived in Phoenix one August morning (1972) and the time-temperature clock on a bank said 118 degrees. You are right. It doesn't matter if it's dry or muggy heat - 118 is too close to the "bad place" for me. Hot in Webster today, too - in the 90s. I stayed inside my air conditioned house. My mother didn't raise no dumb kids!

I love hearing about your adventures & travels. Keep posting.
